Plant Larkspur in a sunny spot, in fertile soil which has plenty of organic matter. In order to keep Larkspur strong and healthy it is advised to dig them up every few years and split them. Also it is best to re-plant them somewhere else in the garden. After its first flowering, cut Larkspur well back and add some fertilizer. Often you will be treated to a second flowering in late summer. Larkspur look good planted with Day Lily (Hemerocallis), Coneflower (Echinacea) and Yarrow (Achillea). Unfortunately, slugs and snails are also attracted to Larkspur. Early in spring, spread some biological slug pellets around the plants.

They like a well-draining soil which doesn't dry out. For thousands of years Giant Reed has been used to make walking sticks, fishing rods and flutes. Even now, Giant Reed is still used in certain wind-instruments. Give the plant some extra protection during the first couple of winters. After that it will be fine. In spring, cut last year's foliage back. A good companion plant for Giant Reed is Hemp Agrimony (Eupatorium). The variegated Giant Reeds will stay somewhat smaller but are also less hardy.

General information about Onion (Allium):
The genus Onion (Allium) includes many vegetables but also plenty of ornamental species. Most Onions like a sunny position in a good, slightly alkaline soil. In the winter the bulbs can rot if they are too wet. If you plant your Onion in the autumn, cover them for the first winter with a layer of leaves. With a lot of the species the leaves will dye back during the flowering period. Remember this when planting and camouflage the gaps with, for instant, ornamental grasses. Some of the smaller species of Onion can spread vigorously. These are good for in a wild garden. Onion flowers attract lots of insects and are also good cut flowers. When the tall species flower on the nursery, they sometimes are too tall to ship out. We could cut them back, but then you loss that years flower. Best to order early or contact us first.

Phlox 'Olympus' - Border Phlox

Botanical name       : Phlox 'Olympus'
Common name          : Border Phlox, Garden Phlox, Tall Phlox, Perennial Phlox

Colour               : Purple, leaves variegated
Flowering time       : July - September
Full grown height    : ± 90 cm
Light requirement    : Sun, Partial shade
Moisture requirement : Normal
Winter hardiness     : Till -35°C  (USDA Zone 4)
Spacing              : ± 45 cm (± 5 per m²)
Details              : Insect friendly, At the nursery, all Phloxes are close together and have little ventilation. Several types of Phlox therefore get mildew in late summer and autumn. Because we use as few pesticides as possible, severely affected plants are often pruned back considerably. That seems dramatic, but it is not harmful to the plants. You can plant infected or pruned phloxes in the garden as usual. Because they are further apart, the chance of mildew in subsequent years is much smaller.

Pot size             : Square 9 cm, volume 0,5 Liter
Delivery time        : 4 - 9 working days
Special notes        : -

General information about Phlox (Phlox):
Phlox (Phlox) is a genus of perennials of which many varieties are excellent for in the border. Over the years many cultivars have been bred in a wide range of colours. Phlox likes a place in the sun or half shade in a fertile soil that should not dry out during flowering. They all appreciate some extra feed in spring. Nearly all Phloxs have a scent, but Blue Phlox (Phlox divaricate) is nicest. The tall varieties are good in the border. These Border Phloxs will die back over winter. Good partners are Day Lily (Hemerocallis), Helen's Flower (Helenium), Beebalm (Monarda), Fountain Grass (Pennisetum) and Culver's Root (Veronicastrum). Some varieties of Border Phlox are susceptible to mildew. Ensure there is plenty of space and air around the plants. The low varieties (Creeping Phlox) are usually winter green and perfect for in the rockery or as ground cover. Try combining with Aubrietia (Aubrieta) or Serbian Bellflower (Campanula poscharskyana). Also the Creeping Phloxs (Phlox) are good in a planted pot where they hang nicely over the sides.

General information about Maiden Grass (Miscanthus):
Maiden Grass (Miscanthus) is one of the most well-known ornamental grasses. They are clump forming, reasonably fast-growing plants which often also display nice autumn colours. The height of Maiden Grass varies from knee-height to over 2 meters. Especially nice are the varieties with striped or mottled leaves. Maiden Grass can be used as a solitary plant or in groups. Maiden Grass prefers a spot in the sun in normal soil, although some shade does not harm it either. It flowers in late summer and is quite spectacular. When gone over, the flower stems still give you a nice display over winter. Some varieties of Maiden Grass will only flower after a nice warm summer. Do not cut Maiden Grass back until spring, as soon as the young shoots are visible. Maiden Grass is a very versatile grass that should be in every garden.

Oregano (Origanum) is an herb-like plant for in the full sun in normal to moist, well-draining soil. Oregano we know best for its use in the kitchen, but some species are being grown because of their foliage or flowers. For use in the kitchen, Wild Oregano is best. In the right conditions, Oregano can spread vigorously by means of rhizomes or self-seeding. The species 'rotundifolium' has flowers that look like a hop-bell or shrimp. These species can be a bit less hardy. Use these in the rockery or in a pot on the patio where the bells will hang nicely over the edge of the pot. Oregano attracts lots of insects and butterflies and is perfect for a butterfly garden. Good partners for Oregano are other drought lovers, such as Stonecrop (Sedum), Lamb's Ear (Stachys byzantina), St. John's Wort (Hypericum), Cinquefoil (Potentilla) and Lavender (Lavandula).
