Lion's Ear  (Leonotis)

Lion’s Ear (Leonotis) is an eye-catcher first class. The mostly orange flowers are in broad whorls around the stems. Lion’s Ear comes from southern Africa and is not hardy in our climate. Overwinter the plants indoors in a frost-free place. Then water moderately. Plant Lion’s Ear in the garden or in a large pot in the spring. Provide a spot in full sun and plenty of water and fertilizer. Lion’s Ear is attractive to insects.
A tea can be made from the dried leaves and flowers of Lion’s Ear, which gives a calming and slightly euphoric effect. The dried parts can also be smoked (Wild Dagga). The effect is somewhat like cannabis, but much milder.
