Leafcup  (Polymnia)

Leafcup (Polymnia) is related to Sunflower (Helianthus). The genus comes from America and the tubers used to be eaten by the Indians. The species 'sonchifolius' is most suited for this purpose. On the internet you can find several recipes for Leafcup (Yacon). They are late flowering plants and in a cold summer they will not bloom in our area. Plant Leafcup in a very sunny position in normal soil. In autumn, harvest the tubers, eat the bigger ones and save the smaller ones to plant out again the following spring.
