Sea Onion  (Urginea)

Sea Onion (Urginea) is a bulbous plant with sturdy leaves and long flowering spikes that attract many insects. The best-known species is Urginea maritima, it grows mainly along the coasts of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean on dry hills and rocky areas. Sea Onion does not tolerate too much water, provide a well-drained soil, preferably in full sun. Because Sea Onion is not hardy in our climate, it is best to keep them in a spacious pot which is placed inside in the winter. It can take a few years before the Sea Onion bulb is big enough to start flowering.
