Goatsbeard is somewhat similar to Dandelion (Taraxacum), but is larger in all. Another typical feature of Goatsbeard is that the flowers wilt during the afternoon; they bloom only in the morning. The roots of Goatsbeard can be eaten like salsify. Many species of Goatsbeard are biennial; a rosette forms in the first year and they flower in the second year, after which they die off. Fortunately, they propagate well so you will usually find Goatsbeard somewhere in your garden. Goatsbeard fits well in a natural planting in full sun on normal soil. The plants are loved by bees.
