Cape Fuchsia  (Phygelius)

The flowers of Cape Fuchsia (Phygelius) look a bit like those of Fuchsia, but they are not related. There are a few colours of Cape Fuchsia being grown, from white to orange and purple. Many of the species have flowers of which also the insides are pretty. Most are reasonably hardy in the garden, especially with some protection in a hard winter. You could always plant Cape Fuchsia in a large pot and winter somewhere frost free to be safe. Cape Fuchsia is a good plant for in the border. Plant them in the sun in fertile, not too dry soil and cut the plants well back in spring. Good neighbour of Cape Fuchsia plants should not be too tall. Try Serbian Bellflower (Campanula poscharskyana), Creeping Phlox (Phlox) or Bloody Cranesbill (Geranium).
