Bloodroot (Sanguinaria) is a plant for in the shadow or woodland garden. The name Bloodroot comes from the red sab that comes from the roots, if damaged. Bloodroot are spring flowering plants with nice foliage and flowers. They like the shade and not too dry soil. Bloodroot is slow growing, so to hasted the show you are better planting a few plants together. The foliage of Bloodroot may die back during the summer. The double varieties tend to be stronger than the single ones.
