Blanket Flower  (Gaillardia)

Blanket Flowers (Gaillardia) are short lived, bushy plants that flower for a long period. They are also a good cut flower. Plant Blanket Flower in a rich, well-draining soil in the full sun. Make sure that they are not too wet in the winter. In September cut the plant right back to ground level. It will then form new shoots and you prolong the life of these beautiful plants. In a hard winter you should cover the plants with a layer of leaves or similar. Blanket Flower attracts a lot of insects. To create a warm combination, plant Blanket Flower together with Japanese Blood Grass (Imperata cylindrica 'Red Baron') and Red Hot Poker (Kniphofia).
