Chinese Ground Orchid  (Bletilla)

Chinese Ground Orchid (Bletilla) is a genus of orchids. Only the species 'striata' does reasonably well in our climate. It is better not to remove the dead foliage in autumn and cover the plants well with leaves for winter. Chinese Ground Orchid grows best in a woodland setting and do not want to dry out in summer. It can take a few years before Chinese Ground Orchid will flower freely. Their roots can attach themselves to the pot, so when trans-planting it is best to cut the pot down the corners and gently tease the plant out.
