Honey Bush (Melianthus) is a (half)shrub which is evergreen in milder regions. If in doubt it is safer to grow Honey Bush in a large pot and winter somewhere frost free. The foliage has an unusual scent and the flowers contain a lot of nectar. Honey Bush wants a well-draining, not too fertile soil. If the soil is too fertile, the plant will not branch properly, nor will its flower. Honey Bush only flowers on branches which are older than a year so bear this in mind when pruning. Honey Bush is a beautiful plant for a warm spot on the patio.
