Armeria - Thrift

Armeria is a low growing perennial. It's fine, grass-like foliage forms clumps above which the flowers sit nicely. Some species form flower stems of up to 20 cm. Armeria enjoys a sunny open position in dry to normal soil. Armeria's natural habitat is along the coast and therefore the plant is resilient to salt and also salt-spreading along roads. An ideal plant for gardeners along the coast. Good companion plants for Armeria are Thymus, Erigeron, Nepeta and Santolina. Removing dead flowers will lengthen the flowering period. Apart from the species Armeria pseudarmeria, all are hardy.
