Cistus - Rock Rose

Cistus is a genus of small shrubs with striking flowers, mainly from the Mediterranean. Most species of Cistus are not fully hardy with us, but with the help of a good layer of leaves they will survive not too severe winters. Make sure the soil is well draining and Cistus wants a place in the full sun in a dry to normal soil. Good neighbour plants for Cistus are Perovskia and not too tall Kniphofia. Cistus is also good planted in a pot for on the terrace. Then you can also winter the plant easier somewhere dry and frost free.
