Crocosmia

Crocosmia - Montbretia

Crocosmia's are plants with corms, upright, lance shaped leaves and flowers in varying, bright colours. Crocosmia is a 'must have' in the border, great combined with Helenium, Agastache, Rudbeckia and ornamental grasses. Crocosmia is also a good cut flower. Plant in the sun in a well-draining, normal soil. If too wet, especially in winter, the corms of Crocosmia will rot away. Plant the corms quite deep, the bottom of them at 15-20 cm. This will help the hardiness as when planted too shallow they can frost. Also covering with a layer of leaves in winter will safeguard them. If you have a wet garden it is advisable to dig the corms of Crocosmia up in late autumn and re-plant in spring.
