Information about the plants

Each plant in the web shop has a clear description. You can see all features and properties at a glance. With your order you will receive practical labels for the plants. Below you can read an explanation of the information for each plant.
Botanical name: The unique name of the plant. We try to stick to the most current name as much as possible, but the naming of some plants changes regularly. You will see a category with all the plants under their botanical name. You can also use the search field at the top to find plants using their alternative names.
English name: Easy to use, but unfortunately not unambiguous and sometimes also regional. You will regularly find several common names in the description. Because we try to include all common names of each plant that we come across. If you know certain plants under other names, please let us know. This is then processed in the webshop.
Colour: Difficult to describe well. Color is highly dependent on personal interpretation. For example, where exactly is the difference between purple, lilac and violet? The colour of a flower can also be influenced by soil type, time of day, light and humidity. For this reason, the photos that accompany a plant may differ slightly from one another.
Flowering time: This indicates in which months the plant usually flowers. However, the weather conditions can cause a shift. The plants do not always flower equally strongly during the indicated period, but you will certainly enjoy the main flowering of the plant during this period. Not all plants flower in the year of purchase or they bloom at a different time of the year. That depends, among other things, on the species, the time at which the plant was propagated, the location and the weather.
Full grown height: The height mentioned is the average height of the mature plant under normal conditions. As a rule, the height is taken during flowering. Depending on the situation in your garden, the height may be slightly different.

The height on delivery depends on the type and moment. Sometimes plants are still small, but many plants are also pruned back at the nursery during their growth. This ensures that there is a good root system with more shoots. Unfortunately, sometimes it is also necessary to prune plants back because otherwise they will not fit in the box.
Light requirement: The light requirement mentioned indicates the circumstances under which the plant feels most comfortable. If the location in your garden is a bit lighter or darker, the plant usually still thrives, but the height and flowering can then be less pronounced.
Light and humidity go together. A semi-shade perennial can often do with more sun if the soil is moist enough.
Moisture requirement: The same applies to this as to the light requirement. A slightly different situation than the most favorable situation is not directly worrying, but also depends on other factors. Plants that have just been planted must always be watered sufficiently until they have rooted well.
Winter hardiness: The temperature given is the lowest that the plant can tolerate. The zones mentioned correspond to the scale of the American USDA (Department of Agriculture). In Germany it can be roughly said that the lowest winter temperature is in zone 7 in the west and north and in zone 6 in the east and south.
Many perennials can tolerate a relatively large amount of frost once they have rooted well. If a plant does not survive the winter, this is usually not only due to the minimum temperature. Often it also has to do with an excess of water and a temperature change between just above and below the freezing point.
Spacing: The distance between the plants or the number of plants per m² apply to a planting where the plants are fully developed after about 3 years. If you want a more 'mature' result you can make the spacing 20% smaller or increase the number per square meter by that percentage. An average soil type is assumed. Sometimes plants thrive particularly well or not so well in a certain soil. You can also solve this by taking more or fewer plants.
The spacing given is for plants of the same species. If plants are to be placed next to other neighboring plants whose recommended spacing is different, take the mean between the two species. Example: You want to plant ferns 80 cm apart next to ground covers that need a 30 cm apart. Then take the average distance between the ferns and ground cover between 80 and 30 cm, this is 55 cm.
Details: Sometimes specific information can be given about a plant, for example that the plant is biennial or is proliferating strongly. Or that it is a sown selection that can contain colour changes.
For many plants, you will also get information about the genus or species to which the plant belongs. You can also see information about the location and maintenance. The tips on plant combinations are very useful. The suggested neighboring plants go very well with the selected plant and need approximately the same location.
Pot size: Pot size: Almost all plants are supplied in so-called P9 pots (square 9 cm, capacity 0.5 litres). This is the most common pot size for selling perennials. Depending on the age of the plant, there are more or fewer roots in the pot. All plants supplied have enough roots to grow into vigorous plants in your garden.
Delivery time: Normally all plants in the web shop are delivered within 4 to 9 working days. The delivery time starts on the next working day after your order. Around public holidays, the delivery time may take a few days longer.
We source our plants from 3 different locations. Transport between these locations usually takes place twice a week, so that we can also ship orders twice a week. In summer and in winter there are fewer transports between the sites. During this period, the delivery time may therefore take longer. We also take a summer and winter break every year. This will be announced on the website.
It is possible that a certain type is sold out at the very moment you order. Of course we will then do our best to find the plant for you. This may take a few extra days. If we are not successful, we will contact you to discuss the further processing of your order.
If you would like precise information about the delivery time of your order, please contact us.
Remarks: This may contain special information about the delivery of the plant.
Pictures: For each plant we try to show good pictures of the whole plant as well as some details. No rights can be derived from these photos. Unfortunately we don't have good pictures of all perennials yet. This is especially true for species that are new to the market. Since a photo often says more than a description, finding suitable photos is always an important point for us.
If you have good photos of perennials, we would be very happy if you send them to us and we can use them in the webshop. If you wish we can watermark the photo with your name.
The photos and pictures used in the web shop are subject to copyright. They may not be used in any form without explicit permission from us.
Prices: Prices: The price shown by default is the price for 1 plant. If you order more specimens of the same plant, you will receive a significant discount that can go up to 35%. The graduated prices are shown in the detailed information of each plant. It will automatically calculate the correct price for the number of plants you order.
So it is interesting to buy several plants of the same species. In addition, many perennials come into their own when planted in groups.
All prices include VAT according to the tariff applicable in Germany. Due to EU VAT guidelines from July 1st, 2021, the VAT rate of the country of destination must be calculated. If you order from a country other than Germany, this may affect the prices of the plants in your shopping cart.
Labels: You will receive clear labels with your plants with the name of the plant and information about the height, colour and location.
