Malva - Mallow

Malva is a large genus of bi- and perennial plants. The flowers of Malva resemble those of Lavatera but on the whole they are somewhat smaller. Malva likes a spot in the sun in well-draining soil. Most species of Malva really do not like wet winters. The chances of survival are greatly increased if you cut the plant well back after flowering. Malva will then put its energy into forming new shoots instead of making seed. If you do allow it to produce seed it will often self-seed. Nice neighbour plants for Malva are Salvia nemorosa, Campanula persicifolia and pale-yellow Achillea.
