Tradescantia - Spiderwort

Tradescantia is an old-fashioned plant with grass like leaves and unusual flowers. A nice development is the fact that in the last few years a lot of nice new cultivars have appeared. A characteristic of Tradescantia is that every single flower only blooms for one day, but many flowers are produced over a long period. Tradescantia likes a spot in the sun or half shade in a normal to moist soil. Tradescantia fits nicely into a natural planting and combines well with Carex, Sanguisorba, Liatris and Mentha. Also in a vase Tradescantia does well.
