Earthnut

Earthnut  (Bunium)

Earthnut (Bunium) is a genus of umbellifers, of which the species Bunium bulbocastanum is native. The plant was widely cultivated in the past for its edible roots that taste sweet. They can be eaten raw or cooked. The taste of the carrots resembles that of roasted sweet chestnuts. The leaves of Earthnut can be used as a herb, they are a bit reminiscent of parsley. The flowers and seeds can also be eaten. Earthnut also has great ornamental value and looks good in a natural planting. The plant will attract many insects there. Plant Earthnut in a spot in the sun on calcareous soil that is normally moist.
