Foxtail Lily

Foxtail Lily  (Eremurus)

A Foxtail Lily (Eremurus) in bloom is a real eye-catcher, but it usually takes a few years before Foxtail Lily starts blooming. Foxtail Lily requires a spot in full sun, on nutritious soil that is well drained. Foxtail Lily hates too much moisture, especially in winter. If necessary, plant them on a slight elevation so that excess water can drain well. The flowers of Foxtail Lily look great against a dark hedge or wall. They are also good cut flowers. Beautiful neighbouring plants of Foxtail Lily are, for example, Peony (Paeonia), Oriental Poppy (Papaver orientale) and German Iris (Iris germanica). After flowering, the leaves of Foxtail Lily often die. Foxtail Lily is not completely hardy in our climate. Cover the plants for the winter with a pack of dead leaves or straw.
