General information about New Zealand Bur (Acaena):New Zealand Bur (Acaena) is a genus of evergreen low growing perennials. They develop creeping stems which at fixed intervals have tuffs of feathered shoots. The flowers of New Zealand Bur are a bit non-descript but are followed in the autumn by small copper coloured fruits covered in small hooks. New Zealand Bur is very useful as a ground cover on poor soils. What looks particularly nice, is a large area of New Zealand Bur dotted with the high tuffs of Maiden Grass (Miscanthus).Pirri-Pirri - Acaena microphylla
