General information about Monkshood (Aconitum):
Monkshood (Aconitum) is a plant that used to be used a lot in the medical care. Not without risk, as the plant is poisonous! Monkshood is easily recognizable by its flowers, they look like a monks hood. They have a similar way of growth and foliage as Larkspur (Delphinium). Monkshood likes moist soil and a sheltered position. A bit of shade during the hottest part of the day is also appreciated. Good neighbours for Monkshood are for example Baneberry (Actaea), Mountain Fleece (Persicaria amplexicaulis) and Astilbe (Astilbe).
