General information about African Lily (Agapanthus):The genus African Lily (Agapanthus) originates from South Africa. They are valued for their beautiful flower heads that rise above the foliage in summer. Due to their origin, Agapanthus are not fully hardy in our climate, although hardiness varies greatly between species. An important characteristic here is whether the plants lose their leaves in autumn or keep them. The deciduous species of Agapanthus are generally fairly hardy. With a protective layer of straw or dead leaves, they can remain in the garden during the winter. Ensure good drainage and preferably plant them in the spring so that they can form a strong root system before winter. If this is not possible, cover them extra well during the first winter. The evergreen varieties of Agapanthus can only tolerate light frost and are therefore better kept in pots, which can be stored frost-free during the winter. Each variety in our webshop is noted as either a deciduous or evergreen variety of Agapanthus. Agapanthus have thick, fleshy roots. It is a myth that Agapanthus must be kept in a cramped pot; in fact, they should be given a larger pot in which the plant can develop well. For abundant flowering, Agapanthus needs sufficient nutrition in addition to a sunny spot. Strawberry fertilizer in granule form has a good composition to serve as nutrition for Agapanthus.African Lily - Agapanthus 'Tornado'
