General information about Hollyhock (Alcea):Most Hollyhock (Alcea) are bi-annual. They are tall, stately plants in beautiful colours. Hollyhock looks best against a fence or wall. There are now some new perennial species available which are less prone to rust on their leaves. Something that will not kill Hollyhock, but doesn't look nice. Usually these affected plants are in too moist a position. There is still some debate over the proper naming of the bi- and perennials. In our web shop we have put the perennials under the genus Mallow (Malva).Common Hollyhock - Alcea rosea 'Sunshine'
