Alkanet  (Anchusa)

Alkanet (Anchusa) is a plant with beautiful bright blue flowers and rough foliage. They are plants for a rich, well-draining soil in a sunny position. It definitely does not like wet feet in the winter. Recommended is cutting Alkanet back strongly after flowering. This will make them stronger and more resistant in the winter. Sometimes you will get a second flush of flowers in late summer. It must be said that Alkanet is not a plant that will live forever, but because of its lovely colour is unmissable in the border. Alkanet combines well with Mullein (Verbascum), Chamomile (Anthemis) and Red Hot Poker (Kniphofia).
