Bletilla

Bletilla - Chinese Ground Orchid

Bletilla is a genus of orchids. Only Bletilla striata does reasonably well in our climate. It is better not to remove the dead foliage in autumn and cover the plants well with leaves for winter. Bletilla grows best in a woodland setting and do not want to dry out in summer. It can take a few years before Bletilla will flower freely. Their roots can attach themselves to the pot, so when trans-planting it is best to cut the pot down the corners and gently tease the plant out.
