Blue Cohosh

Blue Cohosh  (Caulophyllum)

Blue Cohosh (Caulophyllum) is a plant with yellow/brown flowers. After flowering it produces dark blue berries which stay on the plant for a long time. Blue Cohosh likes a spot in the half shade in a good soil which is not allowed to dry out. The plant does not like an alkaline environment. The root of Blue Cohosh used to be used to help induce childbirth. This explains one of the common names of this plant; Lady's root. Nowadays a homeopathic medicine is still made from the root against joint pain, which works more effective for females than males.
