Cardiocrinum

Cardiocrinum - Giant Lily

Cardiocrinum is a small genus of bulbous plants from Asia, closely related to Lilium. They grow in moist forests in the (semi) shade. Before planting, loosen the soil well and apply crushed stone to the bottom of the planting hole, because the roots of Cardiocrinum are sensitive to excess moisture. Provide a nutritious, humus-rich soil. After the flowering of Cardiocrinum, the bulb with the flowering stem dies. Often new bubbles have already formed in the meantime. In winter, cover Cardiocrinum with dead leaves or straw. Cardiocrinum sprouts early in the spring. Keep an eye out for snails, because they love the young leaves. Cardiocrinum may take several years to flower.
