General information about Centaury (Centaurium):
Centaury is a genus within the Gentian family. Most species are quite small and only live for a few years. Centaury usually has pinkish-red star-shaped flowers that attract all kinds of insects. Because Centaury naturally likes to grow in poor soil and open areas in grasslands, they are suitable for a sunny spot in natural gardens. Loosen the soil around Centaury in late summer so that they can self-seed. Centaury is used as a medicinal herb for stomach complaints because of its bitter substances.
