Chinese Lantern  (Physalis)

Chinese Lantern (Physalis) is the plant with the well-known orange lanterns which are loved in autumnal arrangements. Outside, the plants are still attractive in the winter because of its fruit. Chinese Lantern is a poisonous plant, apart from its fruit, which are now also being sold as an edible fruit. Chinese Lantern will grow in any soil in the sun or half shade. They can spread and become invasive. Chinese Lantern is suited to the natural or wild garden, in areas where they may spread. Chinese Lantern combines nicely with Comfrey (Symphytum).
