Cotton Lavender

Cotton Lavender  (Santolina)

Cotton Lavender (Santolina) is a small half-shrub for in a dry spot in the full sunshine, preferably in slight alkaline soil. Cotton Lavender usually has (pale) yellow flowers and greyish foliage. The small leaves have a pleasant scent. In a bad summer, the flowering can be a bit disappointing. In April, cut Cotton Lavender halfway back and top the stems again after flowering in order to maintain a nice bushy plant. Cotton Lavender does not like water at all in the winter. Ensure very good drainage is in place. Good planting partners for Cotton Lavender are Lavender (Lavandula), Thyme (Thymus) and Culinary Sage (Salvia officinalis).
