Crambe

Crambe - Sea Kale

A flowering Crambe leaves you with an unforgettable impression. A large cloud of small, beautifully scented flowers which attract a mass of insects. Because Crambe roots deeply, it is a drought resistant plant. It may take a few years before the first flowers appear. Crambe likes slight alkaline soil. If you do not have this, give it a hand full of chalk in autumn. The species 'maritima' does well in gardens along the coast. Try combining Crambe with grey leaved grasses like Leymus, Helictotrichon and Ammophila.
