Dactylis - Cock's Foot

Dactylis is a genus of clump forming grasses. The species 'glomerata' is very common in Europe and will grow just about anywhere. For use in the garden some variegated varieties have been grown. They look good, for instance, along the edge of a woodland garden. Dactylis prefers sun or half shade in a dry to normal soil. If your Dactylis starts looking a bit messy in the summer, just cut it back to approx. 10 cm.
