Devil's Bit Scabious

Devil's Bit Scabious  (Succisa)

Devil's Bit Scabious (Succisa) looks very much like Pincushion Flower (Scabiosa) and Scabious (Knautia) but the flowers are smaller and more rounded. They look very natural and are not choosy about their soil. Devil's Bit Scabious attract lots of hover flies, bees and butterflies. Because of its relatively small flowers it is better to plant Devil's Bit Scabious in groups of 3 or 5 plants. Used like that, they are a nice eye-catcher next to, for example Coneflower (Echinacea), Woodland Sage (Salvia nemorosa), Yarrow (Achillea), Feather Grass (Stipa) and Prairie Mallow (Sidalcea).
