Carnation (Dianthus) is a genus of plants in lots of colours and varieties. The small ones are very suited to rockeries, along paths or in the front of the border. Carnation often has a nice scent and is a good cut flower. Plant Carnation in the full sun in good draining soil, preferably containing some lime. Carnation looks good combined with Oregano (Origanum), Dalmation Bellflower (Campanula portenschlagiana), Creeping Baby's Breath (Gypsophila repens) and Soapwort (Saponaria).
