General information about Male Fern (Dryopteris):Male Fern (Dryopteris) is a large genus of ferns. They come from all over the world and are evergreen or half evergreen. Cut away the brown leaves at the end of March. Male Fern is not fussy about its soil as long as not in the full sun. Male Fern forms a nice clump, is not invasive and should be present in all woodland and shady gardens. Male Fern is fully hardy but is still advisable to give them protection in their first winter. Growers have produced some cultivars of Male Fern with unusual shaped leaves and is also used in floristry.Autumn Fern - Dryopteris erythrosora
