Dunce's Cap

Dunce's Cap  (Orostachys)

Dunce's Cap (Orostachys) is a genus of succulents, closely related to Stonecrop (Sedum). Not all species of Dunce's Cap are fully hardy with us. Ensure they are planted in a sunny and dry position, especially in winter. It is better to grow them in a pot and winter somewhere frost free. From the rosettes grow stems with small flowers that attract lots of insects. After flowering, those rosettes die back, but not before producing plenty new small rosettes. Good neighbour plants for Dunce's Cap are small Stonecrop (Sedum) and Everlasting (Antennaria).
