Elsholtzia - Mint Shrub

The genus Elsholtzia consists of semi-shrubs mainly from Asia. Only a few species are cultivated. Many species of Elsholtzia flower in late summer and autumn with beautiful flower panicles. They are great bee plants. Both the flowers and the leaves smell like mint. The leaves of Elsholtzia stauntonii can be used to make tea or dried as a kitchen herb. Elsholtzia tolerates drought and sea breezes reasonably well. In the garden, Elsholtzia combines well with Mediterranean plants.
