Elymus - Magellan Rye Grass

Elymus is a genus of clump forming grasses which spread by means of its creeping rhizomes. A bit like the much-dreaded twitch grass. The favourite species for in the garden is Elymus magellanicus which is not invasive and forms a beautiful clump of blue/grey to silver foliage. Elymus has lots of uses in the garden. In the border it will bring some rest in between colourful plants, in a nice pot on the patio or in the prairie garden. Elymus wants a spot in the sun in a well-draining, humus rich soil. Good neighbour plants for Elymus are plants as white Echinacea and blue Salvia nemorosa.
