Ensete

Ensete - False Banana

Ensete is closely related to Musa; both are banana plants. Musa's bananas are the well-known bananas from the shop, while Ensete's fruits are much smaller and sometimes inedible. Ensete is usually not kept for the fruits, but more for the flowering or the beautiful leaves with a tropical look. Because Ensete is not hardy in our climate, it is best to keep them in a large pot that is placed indoors in the winter. Be sparing with water in winter. Give Ensete a spot in the sun in the spring and keep the soil normally moist. Use a good quality potting soil and regularly feed and water because they are strong growers. It usually takes a few years for Ensete to flower.
