False Hellebore

False Hellebore  (Veratrum)

False Hellebore (Veratrum) is a genus of plants for patient gardeners. It may take years before they flower but then they are spectacular plants with a very unusual flower. Fortunately, False Hellebore also has nice foliage so that you can also enjoy this plant in the first years. False Hellebore wants a fertile and reasonably moist soil. The plant is poisonous, but not to snails. They are keen on the young leaves. Planting Globeflower (Trollius) or Meadow Rue (Thalictrum) next to False Hellebore looks good.
