Fennel

Fennel  (Foeniculum)

Fennel (Foeniculum) can be bi-annual or perennial even though the latter do not live for many years. Luckily Fennel usually self-seeds enough to keep it in the garden. If you do not want this, then cut away the flower stems when they have finished flowering. The stems, foliage and seeds of Fennel can be used in the kitchen. The taller species of Fennel are also very suited to the flower border. The finely divided foliage and loose flowers add another texture to the border. Fennel likes a spot in the full sunshine in fertile and well-draining soil.
