Gaura

Gaura - Bee Blossom

Gaura is a must in every garden. Even though the plant is not fully hardy in the UK, it is still well worth planting. It has lots of small butterfly like flowers and a very long flowering period. Use Gaura in planters or along the edge of a path or patio. Also good in borders to fill gaps where the spring flowering bulbs have finished. In a dry prairie garden Gaura is nice combined with ornamental grasses, Aster, Achillea, Echinacea and Monarda. Gaura prefers a spot in the sun in a dry, well-draining soil. If you do cut the plant well back in September this will increase the chance of it retuning the following year. Gaura is best planted in spring. The foliage of many varieties of Gaura will go mottled red or completely red in the summer. This is as it should be and has no ill effect on the plants.
