General information about Avens (Geum):Avens (Geum) belongs to a genus of freely flowering plants for in the sun or half shade. Avens is strong and its warm colours are welcome for in the border. Plant them in the front of the border as the foliage often does not het higher than 10 cm. The flowers sit nicely above the foliage. Avens likes a fertile and not to moist soil. It will sustain a dry period. Split Avens up every 2 to 3 years and re-plant the fresh parts back in the garden with some added compost. If you do this in spring the new plants will flower again the same year. Nice plants to combine with Avens are Jacob's Ladder (Polemonium), Cranesbill (Geranium), Blue Phlox (Phlox divaricata) and Woodland Sage (Salvia nemorosa).Wood Avens - Geum urbanum
