Hairawn Muhly

Hairawn Muhly  (Muhlenbergia)

Hairawn Muhly (Muhlenbergia) is a large genus of grasses from tropical and temperate climate zones. They have fine foliage and dense pinnacles of sometimes pink to reddish flowers. Hairawn Muhly likes a spot in the full sun in dry to normal soil. Hairawn Muhly is not fully hardy with us but the main reason for loosing plants over the winter is that they are too wet. Ensure good drainage or plant on a slope. It is preferable to plant Hairawn Muhly in spring and definitely not later than the end of August. For the best effect, we would recommend planting in groups of at least 5 plants. Suitable neighbour plants for Hairawn Muhly are Beebalm (Monarda) and pink flowering Coneflower (Echinacea).
