Details              : At the nursery, all Helianthus plants are close together and have little ventilation. As a result, they often get mildew in late summer and autumn. This is quite normal for this species and not harmful. You can just plant them in the garden. Because they are then further apart, the chance of mildew in subsequent years is much smaller.

Sunflower is a strong growing, tall and bushy plant which requires plenty of space. Sunflower likes a spot in the sun in well-draining, good and fertile soil. It is good to add some fresh compost annually. Sunflower looks good in a country or natural garden where it will also attract lots of butterflies. For those gardeners who do not like bright yellows, there are also cultivars in cream. Combine Sunflower with tall Asters (Aster), Culver's Root (Veronicastrum), Maiden Grass (Miscanthus) and Plume Poppy (Macleaya).
