Heliopsis - False Sunflower

Heliopsis is a group of very hardy perennials. They are very similar to Helianthus but usually a bit smaller. Heliopsis likes a spot in full sunshine although a few hours of shade will not harm them. They want a good fertile soil. Adding some compost every year will be appreciated. Heliopsis looks good in a country or natural garden where they will attract lots of butterflies. There are some cultivars of Heliopsis available with variegated leaves, but these do not grow as strongly as the green ones. Good partners for Heliopsis are Panicum, Delphinium, tall Aster, Monarda and Agastache.
