Hepatica

Hepatica - Liverleaf

Hepatica's are early flowering perennials for in the shade. The flowers resemble those of Anemone a bit. Hepatica prefers an alkaline, moist and humus rich soil. Hepatica likes some sun early in the year but not later in the year. Therefore, plant them under deciduous shrubs or in woodland. It will take a few years before they form a nice group. The best growing of all Hepatica's is Hepatica nobilis, which can still be found in the wild. Hepatica looks good planted with other spring flowering plants such as Primula, Helleborus, Cyclamen and Galanthus. Also Asplenium looks good next to Hepatica.
