Hibiscus belongs to a very diverse genus with Hollyhock like flowers. The shrub like species of Hibiscus are easy to grow and flower nicely. Most species of Hibiscus are reasonably hardy, but to be sure, cover the base of the plant in winter. In a harsh winter the whole plant might freeze of, only to shoot again from the base in spring. If we get a few mild winters in a row, Hibiscus can grow to quite large plants. Hibiscus will grow well in a large pot and then you can winter them somewhere frost free.
