Himalayan Poppy

Himalayan Poppy  (Meconopsis)

Himalayan Poppy (Meconopsis) is a genus of strong plants that remind you of poppies. Because of its dish-shaped flowers they combine nicely with plants that have flowers on spikelet's. After flowering Himalayan Poppy is also nice with its seed pods. The blue species of Himalayan Poppy are particularly nice. These want a place in a cool area, in humus rich soil and half shade. The soil must not be alkaline or too fertile and drain well. The orange and yellow species of Himalayan Poppy are much easier and are not fussy about their soil as long as they are in half shade. If the plants are happy where they are, Himalayan Poppy can self-seed. If you do not wish this to happen you just cut away the seedpods before they ripen.
