General information about St. John's Wort (Hypericum):
St. John's Wort (Hypericum) is a genus of shrubs and perennials with yellow, dish shaped flowers with tall stamen. Most species of St. John's Wort like sunshine and do not to be too wet in winter. They are strong plants that will survive far from ideal conditions. The shrub like species can suffer from frost damage. Cut them back to 10 cm in spring. Many species of St. John's Wort will produce berries after flowering. The species 'calycinum' will spread through rhizomes and is a great ground cover for difficult areas in the garden. They all respond well to occasionally hard pruning.
