Ingwer  (Zingiber)

Ingwer ist eins der am häufigsten verwendeten Gewürze der Welt. Ingwer ist allerdings auch wegen seiner Blüte interessant. Die Blüten erscheinen nämlich im Spätsommer kurz über dem Boden, obwohl die Pflanze selbst dann schon einen Meter hoch ist. Die Blüten des Ingwers können in Salaten und Wokgerichten verwendet werden. Der Ingwer steht gerne in der Sonne, grelle Mittagssonne sollte allerdings vermieden werden. Der Boden muss ausreichend Nährstoffe haben und normal feucht sein. Um Knollenfäule zu vermeiden ist es wichtig, dass überschüssiges Wasser gut abfließen kann. Dies kann erreicht werden, indem der Ingwer z. B. auf eine Erhöhung gepflanzt wird.

General information about Ginger (Zingiber):
Ginger (Zingiber) is one of the most used spices in the world. But Ginger is also interesting because of its flowers. These appear in late summer, just above the ground, although the plant itself may be a meter tall by then. The flowers of Ginger can be used in salads and in stir-fry dishes. Ginger likes a spot in the sun but avoid strong midday rays. The soil should be fertile and normally moist. In order to prevent the tubers rotting good drainage is essential. You could always plant Ginger in a raised bed.
